Welcome! BERRI is a clinical evaluation tool for identifying, tracking and improving the outcomes of children. We help you understand your child's mental health, neurodiversity and behaviour.
Parenting can be tough, especially if you’re concerned about your child’s behaviour, emotions or development. We’re here to make things a little easier. The BERRI is an easy-to-use online questionnaire that lets you explore your child’s unique needs and track how they change over time. Developed by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years of experience working with children and families, BERRI gives you clear insights into what might be going on beneath the surface for your child.
Our unique questionnaire uses everyday language to find out about the things that matter most, including your child’s:
Behaviour
Emotional wellbeing
Relationships and connections with others
Risk to themselves or others around them
Indicators that they may have a mental health or neurodevelopmental condition
We’re here to help you feel supported when parenting feels challenging.
What will the BERRI tell me?
After you complete the BERRI, you will instantly receive a range of useful information and graphs to help you get to know your child’s needs better. These include:
A written report which gives your child’s scores, information about possible reasons for their difficulties, and some simple parenting advice to help you support their needs.
A graph to visually see your child’s score across each of the five BERRI areas, and the option to see changes since any previous assessments.
Graphs showing changes in your child’s behaviour over time to help you spot any patterns.
The option to choose specific goals to address with your child and track them in more detail over time.
The option to visually compare your child’s scores to other children in the population, to help you understand which difficulties are more common and which may need more support
Depending on the subscription you choose, the BERRI can be used as a one-off tool to help when things feel challenging, or if you’re looking for longer term support, it can be used every month or two to see how your child’s needs change over time.
The BERRI report and next steps
BERRI shows a snapshot of a child's needs across different domains, which can inform how you support your child, or can be acted upon by any professionals involved in the child’s care or education. If you use it at several time points it can also analyse patterns in a child’s needs over time. If you book a consultation, we can also send a link to get BERRI completed by other people in your child's life, such as their school, a therapist or another family member or professional, so that you can see how their perception of the child's needs compares.
If you have questions about your child's mental health that the report doesn't answer, please speak to a mental health professional or your doctor, or you can book a consultation with one of our clinicians after you have completed the BERRI questionnaire. If you wish to arrange a diagnostic assessment or to speak to a clinician about suitable treatment or therapy options after you have completed a BERRI , this can be booked with the BERRI clinical psychologists at additional cost.
Important Boundaries and Limitations of the Digital Tools
The BERRI tools are designed to provide information that can inform you as a parent about strategies to help you support and advocate for your child. However, because BERRI is an automated system, it has some limitations:
BERRI is not suitable for use if your child is currently in crisis. Please call 999 if there is immediate risk, or 111 if you need same-day advice about your child's mental or physical health needs
The reports generated are only able to consider the current scores that you enter. The system does not know your child's individual story, circumstances, or history.
BERRI does not provide diagnoses or clinical opinions as part of the digital subscription, although the reports do indicate where further assessment for specific conditions is recommended. Use of these digital tools should not be confused with, or used to replace, face-to-face professional psychological assessments, therapeutic support, formulation, or individual advice from someone who knows your child.
BERRI should be considered as just one source of information to inform the choices you make as a parent. It must not be the only source of information relied upon when managing risk or making critical decisions about services for a child. Such judgements should include multiple sources of information, including direct observation and knowledge of the child's history.
Why use BERRI?
Most parents have worries about their child’s wellbeing or behaviour at one point or another, but it can be hard to find good quality advice about what your child’s needs might be and what steps you should take to support them. BERRI can help when things feel confusing.
BERRI gives a clear report describing your child’s difficulties, helping you to understand how their emotions, mental health, development, or relationships with others may be playing a role. The report also gives simple practical parenting advice around how to best support them. The option to compare your child to others in the population can also help you to understand whether their needs are outside of a range which is common, and when it might be useful to get professional support. Where it would be helpful, we can also provide a video consultation with a psychologist, who can give even more specific advice, or help to refer you to the right local services.
.
With increasingly strict rules about who NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) will support, and increasing waiting times to be seen, using the BERRI means you can get the support you need, exactly when you need it.
BERRI also has a high level of satisfaction from users.
“The summary at the end was insightful and felt accurate, which was reassuring. It reflected that the system understood our input and gave us a clear picture of what we were dealing with”
“It wasn’t until we went through the assessment that things started to make sense.”
“I think it's quite straightforward, really user friendly, easy to navigate.”
“The structure of the questions was so well-organised that I only fully understood everything after seeing the analysis…Overall, it was a really useful experience”.
“You can’t build strategies around something you don’t understand, so it was tough before having that clarity. I think most people need something like this when they’ve identified a problem but haven’t figured out what it is yet - maybe they’ve exhausted all other resources, are feeling frustrated, and just can’t understand what’s wrong. An easy-to-do test like this could be a helpful first step”.
“Easy to understand, laid out quite well. It highlighted early on that there were potentially issues, then went into the detail of how those issues were identified. There were lots of ideas on what to do next, where to go for support, and how to get follow-up support, so that was really good”.
“We’ve spent four years trying different offers, using one of the best psychological systems and teams…BERRI has brought something phenomenal to the table. Without it, I wouldn’t even know what the problem is”.
“BERRI helped us put things into perspective by framing the results in a meaningful way, like saying, ‘Your child might be one in a class of 30 who needs extra support.’ This context was incredibly helpful and made the results feel actionable and relevant”.
